Olly & Charlotte are some of my earliest clients back when I was beginning my journey as a professional photographer. I remember first meeting them for a newborn session with their son Ethan in my makeshift home studio, so it was really touching when Charlotte reached out to me to discuss her wedding plans with Olly some 6/7 years later. There was even a bit of a twist!
The plan was for Olly & Charlotte to have their legal ceremony at the start of last October, with just close family in attendance. This would be done in secret, and their wider circle of friends would be none the wiser. Then, later in the month, they would have a big party and announce they were now married to everyone in attendance. Sadly, I wouldn't be able to photograph the party, but I was available for the wedding day itself.
Olly & Charlotte got ready in separate houses in and around Greatstone, in the Romney Marsh, before both heading up to Canterbury Registry Office for the ceremony. The plan was to also include group and couples photos in the nearby Westgate Gardens after the ceremony, before driving down to the village of Stanford for the 'reception' and a meal. Unfortunately, the wedding party before us were very late finishing, so time constraints meant a change of plan.
While everyone else went on ahead to the Drum Inn in Stanford, I took Olly & Charlotte for a quick tour around the gardens for some photos, before we too headed down to the reception for the rest of the group photos beside Charlotte's dad's bright orange campervan (he was an avid fan of the motorcycle company KTM). Sadly, he hadn't long passed away so couldn't be there for his daughter's special day, but there was no shortage of momentos and subtle touches to his memory.
As the wedding itself was quite low-key, Olly & Charlotte had opted for shorter coverage, so as everyone sat down to eat I bid them all farewell and congratulations once again. What a great way to kick off your married life together!
