Whilst my outdoor photography workshops cover a range of the more popular disciplines, such as portraiture, landscape and street photography, their group atmosphere may not be suitable for everyone. That's why I also offer individual mentoring and photography tuition. These sessions are great for those just starting out on their photography journey, as well as those with more experience, who may benefit from some 1-2-1 training in specific areas.
Looking for something even more in-depth? I also offer a full digital photography crash course. Set out over approx. 20 hours of theory and practical instruction, with a comprehensive set of accompanying notes, this course is a sure-fire way to ensure you hit the ground running. You can also buy the notes separately if you wish.
As someone who is completely self-taught in photography, I know how difficult it can be to begin the steep learning curve that it initially entails. While resources like YouTube can be useful, there is often no substitute for in-person learning. By booking a mentoring session with me, you can be sure of being in the safe hands of a seasoned professional who was once in the exact same position as you.
These sessions can be tailored to suit any skill level and specific disciplines if wanted such as portraiture, landscape or street photography, studio lighting, off camera flash, even business advice and tips for getting started as a professional photographer. A range of locations can be used as appropriate, with portraiture-focused sessions involving the use of a model to make things easier. You will also receive a set of bespoke notes covering the agreed content of the session.
Mentoring sessions can be booked at any time of the year around my current schedule, and are just £30 per hour, which includes limited travel (up to 60 total miles) from my home in Kent, though further travel is also available for an extra cost. Sessions with a model cost £45 per hour. To enquire about mentoring sessions or detailed pricing for specific training, please use the contact form below.
This comprehensive crash course is aimed at those who have just began their photography journey and aren't sure where to start, or have picked up a digital camera that's been gathering dust and want a detailed refresher in how to use it to its full potential. The course involves 8 modules (6 theory and 2 practical) set out over approx. 20 hours of teaching time and practice. You are welcome to split the course up into however many sessions as necessary, with the full price covering hire of a model, and locations/venues within a 30 miles radius of my home in Kent. Further travel is also available for an extra cost.
The modules covered include: an in-depth look at your camera and equipment, the primary shooting modes, the exposure triangle, focussing and metering, white balance and colour theory, and basic editing techniques. There are also practical modules outdoors which cover understanding natural light and compositional techniques. These two practical modules will also include time with a professional local model, so you can even delve into some basic portrait photography to round off the course.
All major camera brands can be accommodated, however it is recommended that you have use of a digital SLR or mirrorless camera, or something with the option to change lenses easily and allow full manual control. Fixed lens 'bridge' style cameras are also an option, though are less suitable. Smaller 'point and shoot' style cameras or phones are not really suitable, as their functionality is often very limited. You will be given an extensive set of notes for you to keep to accompany the course (over 40 pages), and the full price is £450. You can also purchase just the notes sent via email as a PDF for £25.
