Family sessions are a great way to get out and about, spend some quality time together, and maybe update the pictures on the wall. However, it can also be a bit of a daunting prospect if you've not really had professional photos taken before, or are generally a little shy or introverted. When Emily first got in touch, she was candid about how her family weren't great with having photos taken, and might need a bit of gentle encouragement. A big part of this, I think, if going somewhere quiet but with lots of possibilities, and I knew just the place!
Hothfield Common is somewhere I find myself lots, and it really does make a great place for family sessions. It's big enough you can easily find a quiet little corner away from crowds, and has lots of great photographic opportunities. As with most of my first time clients, Emily, her husband and their 3 children started out a little shy and unsure of what to do or how to behave, but I was always on hand to offer advice and help get the best out of them as we went along. Soon enough, we were creating some lovely and natural situations, with lots of photos of the five of them together, as well as the parents/kids separately. We even found a pretty epic tree towards the end, which the kids were soon climbing all over.
Emily and her family made for great models this afternoon, and she sent some lovely feedback afterwards saying how difficult it was to choose her favourites! A real testament to how fun a family session can be.
