I knew right from my first meeting with Pete and Laura and hearing about their wedding plans that it was going to be something a little different and a bit quirky - which is absolutely fine with me! They had a bit of a geeky side to them and Laura especially had a love of dinosaurs, so I was excited to see how they were going to bring these interests to the table on their wedding day.
Laura and the bridal party were all getting ready in the trendy Ned hotel in The City of London, and it was a lovely warm day when I headed up to begin my coverage. Everyone was really chilled and took their time, even popping down to the on-site salon to get their nails done! Back in the room Laura still had time for a dance-off before getting into her dress and leather jacket, along with some Vivienne Westwood and some chunky silver Dr Martens with blue ribbon laces!
I made my way across town to Chancery Lane near the Royal Courts of Justice and to the Knights Templar, a beautifully decorated Wetherspoons pub that also hosts wedding ceremonies and receptions. This was a bit of a first for me, but it had a real charm about it and definitely didn't feel like a pub. It wasn't long before everyone was either taking their seats in the smaller ceremony room upstairs, or viewing downstairs where there was 'standing room only'.
Pete was cool as anything as the bridal party arrived, with the ceremony being broadcast over loudspeaker for everyone down below. Afterwards everyone made their way back down to the bar before some group photos outside the side entrance in the street (there just wasn't space inside!) Then, to welcome the couple in for the meal, the staff allowed Pete and Laura behind the bar to pour - and subsequently down - their first pints as husband and wife, being grabbing another each and having a seat at the top table.
After the meal and the speeches (which Laura even took part in) I took them both for a wander around the nearby streets, the back of the law courts and around Lincoln's Inn Fields. We even bumped into some well-wishers on the way back who jumped in on a few selfies! Back in the pub the 'cake' was set up, which was actually a a giant tiered pork pie cake, topped with a lego Han Solo and Princess Leia. A real twist on tradition again!
It wasn't long before Pete and Laura hit the dancefloor, and they really put on a show for their guests before everyone else joined in and burnt off some of the pub grub and drinks from the bar throughout the day. This was a great chilled out wedding with a difference right in the heart of London, and Pete and Laura was just superstars from start to finish.
