This was the second time for me at Lympne Castle this year, and in stark contrast to Joe & Hailey's wedding here back in the summer, it was sadly a bit cold and wet for Gavin & Amy's big day. That being said it certainly didn't stop them having a great day, and it cleared up enough later in the evening to be able to get out and have some fun creative photos against the backdrop of the castle lights.
Gavin and Amy decided to skip the morning preparations, so I arrived in good time and popped into one of the adjacent cottages to see Amy quickly before the ceremony. The guests were beginning to arrive and it wasn't long before everyone was seated in one of the wood-panelled rooms, waiting for Amy and her bridal party to arrive.
During the ceremony we were treated to a short ukulele performance by one of the couple's friends, before they said their vows, exchanged rings and had their first kiss. As the weather outside was still pretty wet, after the ceremony room had been cleared of chairs we decided to have the group photos here against the grand stone fireplace (it wasn't on, don't worry!)
The couple had chosen a royal blue and silver colour scheme for their reception, with some nods towards classic cinema and comic books dotted around the room too. The speeches were as usual great fun, and their son even had some words of wisdom for Gavin and Amy as well.
As the rain had now stopped and a natural lull in proceedings, I took Gavin and Amy outdoors for some lovely romantic photos in the front courtyard and driveway, with fairylights behind and on the stone walls, these came out particularly well. Then finally to warm back up we ducked back inside and used another of the stone fireplaces by the entrance for some more beautiful photos of just the two of them.
Back in the grand hall, a 5 piece band was setting up for the first dance and beyond, but there was just time to cut the cake before the happy couple took to the dancefloor. The band really added to the atmosphere in the castle, and was really quite energetic! As my coverage was drawing to a close, I grabbed Gavin and Amy once last time, along with the guests for some sparkler photos outside to round out the night.
This was a great winter wedding at Lympne Castle, and I was assisted through the day by Lauren who is a fellow wedding photographer. Lympne Castle is super local to me, and one of my favourite venues.
