George and Vicky decided, in an effort to make the administration of their wedding simpler, to accompany a much more lavish and traditional Greek wedding in October with a small intimate ceremony at the Guildhall in Kingston upon Thames a few months beforehand. This is a great idea, as they wouldn't need to transfer legal documents over to the UK, and their wedding would be official where they live in west London.
I headed up to Kingston by train before making the short walk to the Guildhall building, just a stone's throw from the river Thames. Although I arrived a little early, it wasn't long before everyone began to arrive and make their way into the ceremony room with its wood panelling and high ceilings.
After the ceremony and a few group photos outside on the steps of the Guildhall, we all jumped in various cars and made out way to the nearby Hampton Court Palace, where a large table had been reserved at the Tiltyard Cafe for lunch and drinks. It still needed to be set up and deocrated when we arrived, so whilst George & Vicky's guests took care of this, the three of us went for a wander around the grounds to take some couples photos.
There was certainly no shortage of spots to choose from, from the beautiful rose garden to the imposing front courtyard of the palace, the banks of the Thames and nearby bridges to the expansive parkland of the wilderness. We had a lot of fun getting some creative photos - and we even found a couple of deck chairs that we borrowed briefly!
Afterwards I was invited to join everyone for some lunch, so I stayed for a few hours afterwards getting to know everyone a bit better. By the end I really felt a part of the celebration, and I keep in touch with George and Vicky to this day.
Weddings like this go to show that you don't have to pull out all the stops to have a great day, and even small and intimate weddings can be just as beautiful and full of love.
