Downham and Greenwoods Hotel Festive Winter Wedding with Nigel & Julia

Every so often I run discounts on off-peak wedding coverage, and as Nigel and Julia's December wedding fell within that time-frame, they got in touch to take advantage of my offer, and saved a bit of money on their wedding photography. With just 4 days before Christmas, I knew it was going to be a pretty festive affair!

I arrived at St Margaret's church just outside the village of Downham in Essex a little early before any of the guests had arrived, so took the time to capture some details around the church, including lots of floral decorations and festive touches both inside and out. The large tree inside looked particularly lovely.

Nigel, his best man, and the other guests began to arrive shortly thereafter, with members of the congregation heading to the tower to take part in a spot of bell-ringing before Julia arrived in a beautiful baby blue dress and white furry shawl as the ceremony got underway.

There was no shortage of hymns during the service, with everyone joining in to support the choir. Afterwards we all headed outside for some confetti just outside the lychgate before everyone headed to the nearby Greenwoods Hotel & Spa in the village of Stock for the reception. I was well aware the light was beginning to fade now, after some welcome drinks we headed outside for the group photos the couple has requested before Nigel and Julia had their own couples photos taken in the gardens and by the glow of the fairy lights and floral decorations around the hotel.

Back inside there was the lovely sound of a string band playing for everyone's enjoyment, and when the guests were seated in the amazingly set up reception room, the couple were greeted in and seated for the meal. This was a chance for my to have a quick break while everyone was eating, but it wasn't long before I was back for the cake cut - which happened between courses.

As Nigel and Julia had opted to finish proceedings after the meal but without any speeches, my coverage was finished at this point, so I wished the happy couple a very Merry Christmas and congratulations before heading home again. These two were lovely to work with and clearly made for each other, even if they were perhaps a little nervous at first in front of the camera!
