Gilka got in touch with me in early September as she and her husband were planning to move abroad in the coming weeks after living in London for a long time, and she wanted to be able to remember her time in the city with some professional photographs. She was also about 7 1/2 months pregnant at the time, so wanted to turn it into a maternity session as well - what a great idea!
Having only done a few maternity sessions to date, I was super keen to be able to do another (my last one was with Vicky & George in Richmond Park). I did a little research of areas close together incorporated some key landmarks, as Gilka wanted more of an urban feel to her photos, and we settled on the area around London Bridge on the banks of the River Thames. I met up with her outside London Bridge train station and we set off to explore.
What I love about this part of London is the mix of modern and contemporary architecture, with some older buildings and landmarks. Working our way down to the river we had great views of The Shard and the new office and residential buildings, before taking in the other side of the Thames, the Tower of London and The City, Tower Bridge and City Hall too. After a quick outfit change we headed under Tower Bridge towards Shad Thames, an area I've always wanted to photograph, and found yet more great vantage points.
Whilst maternity sessions can be very personal to the individuals, and I was more thank happy to respect Gilka's privacy and not publish any of these, she very kindly gave me permission to share a few of her chosen images - which I'm very greatful to her for! I wish her and her husband the best of luck with their new life abroad, and their new arrival, too.
If you'd like to arrange your own maternity session, be it in the middle of a city or somewhere more rural, check out my portrait sessions here, or send me a message over on the contact page with your ideas and let's get a date in the diary to celebrate your upcoming arrival!
