Hucking Estate Summer Woodland Portrait Session with Kamie

The Hucking Estate is one of those places that is pretty magical regardless of the time of year. I've been here for photo sessions a few times now, mostly in the spring as its one of the best places in Kent to walk amongst the bluebells. With the Covid-19 lockdown starting to ease now, it's becoming easier to organise 1-2-1 outdoor photo sessions again.

Wanting to try out some new lighting equipment somewhere familiar after months of relative inactivity, I reached out to people in Kent to work on some collaborations over the summer, and Kamie was one of the first people who responded. Despite not working with Kamie before, it turned out we had lots of mutual friends, and she was a genuine pleasure to work with!

It was a particularly hot day in late June, and I had already met up with someone else for a photo session earlier in the day, so I had my creative hat well and truly on when I met Kamie at the Hucking Estate carpark. Having been here a few times before, I had a vague plan in mind for where I wanted to shoot. and it wasn't long before we settled into our socially distanced working style.

The dappled light through the trees and leaves really complimented the area and provided some really atmospheric natural light. However the main reason I wanted to come here was to practice using some new lighting equipment to add a bit of extra 'pop' to the images and shine a bit more light onto Kamie and her outfits.

We moved from a shaded grove of ferns and foxgloves to a gorgeously lit grassy track for her second outfit - a striking duet of red and black that really stood out amongst the surrounding greenery! These photos were definitely my favourite of the afternoon.

Finally we swapped back to a casual look and found a cute carved fallen tree and a wooden gate bathed in the late afternoon sunshine to end the session. Kamie was super chilled and fun to work with, and hopefully I'll get the chance to shoot with her again in the future! If you're looking to have your own portrait session around Kent, head over to my portrait photography page for details and prices, or get in contact for a chat.
