Being a photographer when you're not allowed to socialise or be near people is, as you can imagine, quite challenging. Having been in quarantine since mid March I was starting to get cabin fever, and wanted to keep my head in game and find a way to still photograph someone from my own home. Being totally honest, this isn't an original idea, and I was inspired by a photographer called Irene Rudnyk, who has a pretty popular YouTube channel.
While not perfect (I wish I had positioned my light differently and wiped the fingerprints off my phone screen more meticulously), I love the concept and look Laura and I managed to create during our remote Facetime portrait session! Not sure I'll win any design awards for the flat lay arrangement, but hey, it looks pretty, right?
So the concept was simple enough, grab some props to position around a phone, call someone willing to dress up in fancy clothes in their lounge, and snap away! Thankfully I had a great model in Laura to help me out with this remote portrait session idea. Having last worked with her about a year ago on a bluebell/woodland portrait session, It was lovely to chat to her again and catch up, not to mention have a lot of fun with this little project.
With the help of a duvet cover, some fake flowers, a flowery shawl/bolero thing, some pencils and a random cookbook, the flat lay design was complete. During the session, Laura put on two distinct looks while I directed her from my end - though to be honest she's good enough to do this without my help! We spent about 45 minutes going through the motions and I'm really happy with the end result.
Hopefully things will return to some sort of normality soon and I won't have to replicate this style again (fingers crossed for never!) but it was fun to try something different.
