For some time now I've wanted to try a fitness or sports portrait session with someone. The idea of adding some dynamic movements, colour and shapes really appeals to me, so in the extended lull that has been the summer of 2020, I went in search of some sporty individuals that might just fit the bill, and Sherisse got in touch!
With a really active dance background, Sherisse was more than happy to work with my ideas, as well as put forward her own suggestions at key points - like a mini dance routine in one of the more accessible parts of the old Gunpowder Works near Faversham. I also had some ideas to add a splash of colour, and mixed with one of Sherisse's outfit changes, the addition of an orange smoke bomb really added something special to this part of the session.
The Oare Gunpowder Works are a great place to visit, and have a real grungy vibe to them as most of the buildings are in ruins now. Mixed with some woodland and forested areas and paths, together with some small lakes, we had such a variety of places to work and backdrops to use.
As most of the areas are quite dark, even in the middle of the day, I had some portable lighting with me to really bring Sherisse's poses and moves to life and give everything a vibrant look and feel, which really worked well with the fitness theme we were going with!
We both had a great afternoon, and Sherisse was fantastic to work with. There are so many amazing photos to choose from, so here's the best of the best.
