Hothfield Common Autumn Lifestyle Portrait Session with Mel

I've known Mel for a number of years now, and back when I had a little home studio she came for some headshots and general modelling photos with a good friend of hers. That was going on 5 years ago now so it was great to catch up with her, hear some amazing stories of her career (she sings, dances, and is currently a cast member for Peppa Pig in the West End!) and to get some lovely natural autumnal photos at the same time. Hothfield Common is a location I've been to a few times recently and has loads of potential for photos this time of year. Luckily, we picked a dry day and the light was just nice and soft, so it was perfect to add in a little 'magic' with my own lights!

It may have been a cold, crisp November day, but it didn't keep the wild horses away, and we actually had some 'company' for the first part of the session as they went about their business while occasionally getting a little too close to my lighting equipment for comfort.Thankfully, they weren't too troublesome and we got some fantastic results just inside the wooded part of the common before heading out onto open heathland.

The ferns and lone trees provided a great backdrop for Mel with her collection of outfits, and the golden colours were just to die for. It had been some time since she had modelled per se, so I gave her a quick rundown of some basic tips and poses, something I do with everyone, and she really got into the swing of things in no time at all.

We were really spoilt for choice with some fantastic spots in the area, and she was super happy with the photos that we got from the session. I love to incorporate the landscape and surroundings in my portrait sessions, and I think we captured the best of this area at an amazingly beautiful time of year. If you'd like your very own photo session, head over to my portrait page for more details, or head over to the contact page to send me a message.
