Hindhead & Witley Surrey Summer Wedding with Chris & Marissa

Another sunny June day, another lovely wedding to go to! This time I was headed to Surrey for Chris & Marissa's big day. They had opted for something a bit more low-key, with a church ceremony in the village of Hindhead, followed by a DIY reception in nearby Witley, where they had decorated the village hall themselves.

Chris & Marissa weren't overly fussed with too much morning prep coverage, something that myself and my second photographer Anna took on board, electing to arrive a little later than usual. I still had time to grab some detail photos before some lovely bridal portraits of Marissa in the garden with her bridesmaid and parents before heading to the church.

Hanging from the ceiling of St Albans in Hindhead was a blue sail, in dedication to Chris' dad, a rigger, who was sadly no longer with us, but clearly meant a great deal to him and the rest of his family. There were also tributes paid to him during the ceremony, as well as a bottle of champagne given to Chris, to signify the 'christening' of his and Marissa's marriage, as a new ship would be christened at launch.

After the ceremony and some group photos outside the church, we all headed to the village hall in Witley, where they had decorated it with simple canteen style seating, floral and wooden touches, and a buffet set up at one end which was being prepared outside on a string of BBQs. As everyone chatted the afternoon away, I took Chris & Marissa for a short stroll to grab a few photos of the two of them.

As always, the speeches are a big highlight of a wedding, and this was no exception, there were some great laughs and reactions as each speaker took their turn at the front. Afterwards, the cake cut and first dance rounded off the evening nicely, but as the sun went down I took Chris & Marissa back outside one last time for a few quick photos during golden hour. Totally worth it!
