Canterbury and Mount Ephraim Summer Wedding with Michael & Rachel

Canterbury Cathedral is one of the biggest attractions in Kent and provided an amazing backdrop to Michael and Rachel's wedding day on a gloriously sunny July afternoon in 2018. After some drinks in the nearby Cathedral Lodge, Michael and his guests headed to the ceremony in the Crypt before they were joined by Rachel, her bridal party and of course her father.

The atmosphere below the cathedral was incredible, but sadly we had to keep at arms length during the proceedings out of respect for our environment. Afterwards, everyone headed outside for drinks and canapes, before travelling to Mount Ephraim Gardens near Faversham for the rest of the reception; including the wedding breakfast, speeches and of course the first dance and party late into the night!

It was a gorgeous day for Rachel & Michael's wedding in the heart of Kent, of which I was assisting Mykey Day Photography. Getting married in Canterbury Cathedral tends to be reserved for those who attain a First Class degree from the nearby University of Kent, and it was Rachel who attended the university in her youth - so I'm guessing she must have done pretty well with her studied to have the opportunity to marry Michael in the Cathedral!

There were the usual groups of tourists in the grounds and inside on the main level, but the lower crypt was closed off to the public, and made a grand location for the ceremony. The guests soon began to arrive and eagerly awaited the bride and her father. Afterwards the couple sneaked off to have some photos taken before joining their guests opposite the Cathedral at the Cathedral Lodge Hotel where there were drinks and canapes to enjoy.

As the afternoon wore on, everyone then departed for one of my favourite venues in Kent, Mount Ephraim Gardens near Faversham. This beautiful grade II listed house is nestled in expansive grounds and gardens, and everyone was eager to enjoy the sunshine outdoors for as long as possible. After the formal group photographs and more cute photos of the couple, the wedding breakfast was served, followed by the speeches!

Rachel's dad really put on a show for everyone, and his speech was a bit of an epic (I also noticed some guests placing bets on how long it would go on for!) but was met with thunderous applause before Michael and his best man took their turns. As the light began to fade the amazing cake was cut and the first dance kicked off in the central lobby at Mt Ephraim, with confetti showering the happy couple as the party kicked off.

This was a great end of a long summer's day, and I've no doubt that everyone was happy to wish Rachel & Michael all the best as they all danced long into the night! If you've booked Mount Ephraim Gardens for your wedding, or indeed anywhere else in the Southeast and are looking for some creative, fun and beautiful wedding photography, I'd love to hear from you! Check out my current collections and pricing and get in touch for further information.
