Burgess Hill Summer Wedding Blessing with Ryan & Kirsty

I first met Ryan & Kirsty as guests at James & Eleanor's wedding back in 2019, where Kirsty was one of the bridesmaids. Fast forward a year or so, and Kirsty got in touch to book me herself for her and Ryan's wedding day. However, with Covid lingering like a bad smell, changes were inevitable, and not only was the date moved several times, but the scale of the day hugely altered as well.

Ryan & Kirsty had originally opted for a larger wedding in Brighton, but in the end opted for a small legal ceremony, followed by a very informal wedding blessing with a celebrant in their own home. 2021 was certainly a year of firsts for me! I quite liked the idea though, as it really allowed them to put their own stamp on things without any of the stresses and pressures (and costs!) of a big day at a larger venue.

As self-professed sci-fi and fantasy fans, their home in Burgess Hill was adorned with references and items from Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter, including metal prints, replica swords and lightsabres, and other trinkets. Their love of these popular franchises also found their way into their blessing, which was held initially in their back garden, before the rain pushed everyone inside to finish the blessing.

After a quick round of group photos back outdoors, the wedding party and myself headed to some nearby woods with the idea of replicating some famous scenes and poses from the movies, complete with a selection of movie props and replicas! This was a great twist on the traditional couples and wedding party group photos, and was a lot of fun to put together!

Back at the house, there was still the speeches to do, followed by the 'cake cut' with a sword (Bilbo's Sting from the Hobbit to be exact) and their first dance back outside on the patio, as their guests blew bubbles over the happy couple while the sun went down. This may not have been the wedding they had originally planned, but it was every bit their special day, with their nearest and dearest around them and an environment they felt most comfortable - and that's really all that matters.
